How we got these numbers

This is a rough estimate, not an engineering report. The numbers use typical values for homes of your size and age. Your actual savings depend on your home's insulation, air leaks, the equipment you pick, and how well it is installed. Get quotes from at least three licensed contractors before you decide. A proper sizing job (called a CSA F280 heat load calculation) is the only way to confirm what your home needs.
Watch out for pushy sales. Some contractors falsely claim to be linked to government rebate programs. Always check the program website directly, and never sign anything on the first visit. Efficiency Nova Scotia, NB Power, and other utilities have all warned about predatory sales of heat pumps.
